COMPASS recognizes Comprehensive Support and Stabilization staff for outstanding services to DSS families in need of services.

COMPASS contracts with the Department of Social Services (DSS) to provide an integrated system of services for children and families served by the child welfare system. COMPASS family specialists and clinicians work to strengthen, support or maintain each family's skills to enable them to provide a safe and supportive environment for their children. They serve as liaisons between the families and the public school, social service and/or juvenile justice systems and meet with clients and their families several times a week in the community.

Support and Stabilization Services do not conform to a particular structure but are responsive to the individual, evolving needs of the client and family.

The following is a sampling of the services provided:
  • Time-limited, outcome-oriented services
  • Crisis intervention, including 24-hour on-call emergency services
  • Court experience
  • Parenting support
  • Advocacy
  • Facilitation of parents' involvement in their children's education
  • Assignment of as many staff as necessary to each family and its individual members
  • Timing of services when and where it is most convenient and constructive for the family
